Welcome to the 9th supplement

The ninth supplement of the EUA Bologna Handbook - published on 16 September 2008 - includes six articles on a number of the current key topics in the Bologna process.
The ongoing strategic linkages between the development of the European Higher Education Area and the European Research Area are explored by Gerhard Duda in the first article, while Ruth Keeling continues the Handbook’s focus on the external dimension of Bologna, examining the significance of the Bologna process beyond Europe for the countries of the Commonwealth. Likewise at a strategic policy level, Colin Tück introduces the recently created European Quality Assurance Register and its role in enhancing trust and transparency in the work of quality assurance agencies across Europe.
At the level of institutions implementing the core components of the Bologna process, Guido Langouche examines the experience of the Coimbra Group member universities in promoting student mobility, and Gerhart Rott outlines best practice and approaches to improved student counselling services as part of the student-centred approach called for in Bologna. In order to assist with the ongoing development and implementation of joint programmes by many higher education institutions across Europe, Adina Timofei presents the results of a recent EUA survey in this area.
