Description	*Authors: Andrée Sursock, Hanne Smidt* Readers will know that the series of Trends reports is one of EUA’s flagship publications. The latest – Trends 2010 – was presented to Bologna ministers at their meeting in Vienna in March 2010. The editors of the Handbook have decided to publish the executive summary for three principal reasons. First, Trends 2010 updates the state of implementation of Bologna under headings which are now familiar: qualifications framework, mobility, employability, lifelong learning, quality assurance, internationalisation, etc. Secondly, it adds a significant longitudinal dimension by comparing the survey results to those obtained in 2005 and 2007 Trends exercises. Thirdly, authors Andrée Sursock and Hanne Smidt have provided incisive commentary locating Bologna developments in the wider context of globalisation, European demography and financial crisis, and the EU’s Lisbon Agenda.
